
These were then approved by the AANEM Board of Directors. The PPC reviewed the feedback from this group and voted on the final Top Ten recommendations. The committee’s recommendations were discussed at an AANEM Board meeting that included chairs from AANEM committees. The PPC members identified areas to be included on this list based on the greatest potential for overuse/misuse, quality improvement and availability of strong evidence-based research/support in the literature.

While electromyography can be uncomfortable, the data received from the test can be very useful to the doctor in helping you find a long-term solution to the pain or condition that predicated the test. This is normal and generally lasts 1-2 days.

The PPC includes both neurologists and physical medicine and rehabilitation (PMR) physicians who come from varying practice settings and also includes the AANEM’s representatives to the American Medical Association (AMA) Current Procedural Terminology Panel and Relative Value Update Committee. After the EMG is complete, you may experience some muscle soreness at the insertion point(s). Slouching of the neck (forward head posture) and shoulders (Vanti et al., 2007), belly- (only)-breathing (Simon & Travell, 1999), and lack of diverse movement will cause the scalenes that form the interscalene triangle of which the brachial plexus pass through, to inhibit/deactivate.
